From the artist: This piece is from my series '365 Melbournians' which documents every-day Melbournians as digital illustrations. The series depicts people from various backgrounds in banal but equalizing scenarios; be it in transit, walking their dog or yawning while rolling out dough. My aim is to humanize people from all cultures regardless of their depiction in popular media. This particular piece is based on a woman I saw while at the Turkish food festival at the Queen Victoria Market. She was one of three older women making fresh lahmaçun (Turkish style pizza). The entire setup was white, providing a stark contrast to the bustle of the market around it. I stood and watched as these women worked when the eldest stopped and yawned before getting back to work. I felt the moment was worth celebrating.
