The Golden Arch is inspired by Washington Square Arch, where the Islamic Center of NYU host their Eid prayers every year. I serve as the Hindu Chaplain of NYU but have always participated in this beautiful event every year alongside the Muslim community. This arch is drawn as a Thiruvachi in Tamil/Prabhavali in Sanskrit, ornamental/decorative pillars found in Hindu temples representing a ring of light (Noor in Islam)/the endless greatness of the divine. Gold symbolizes knowledge, learning, meditation. All lessons to be learned during Ramadan. The lion's head represents a reminder to surrender our ego to the divine. Islam means surrender or submission to God. Peacocks represent beauty/knowledge & the all-seeing/knowing divine in Hinduism, their feathers used as bookmarks for the Holy Quran in many cultures. Eid Mubarak written on top in Arabic, and Eid Ambarki Ighudan in Tamazight language for my Moroccan/ Amazigh friends. Here's hoping to meet everyone in person soon!
